Clergy praise Museveni on gay law and call for resilience…
Several churches in eastern Uganda praised President Museveni in their Easter sermons for assenting to the anti-gays law in February.
In Tororo District, Bishop Emmanuel Obbo, the Archbishop of Tororo Archdiocese, urged every citizen who supported the anti-homosexuality law to lay down greed, corruption and “put them to death and let generosity rise up within us and flow out in abundance.” He said “In Christ, we have victory over dysfunctional relationships, bad habits, painful experiences, sexual temptation and devastating circumstances.”
“The proposed amendments seek to protect the rights of non-believers and their freedom to express their non-belief, in member countries with standing blasphemy laws that infringe upon the human rights of non-believers. At present, the Articles expressly protect religious freedoms, but do not protect the freedom of non-believers and as such, non-believers are being persecuted, imprisoned and even executed for expressing their opinions with regards to certain religions in various member countries.”
Comment: It appears that the Archbishop was being disingenuous.
Yemisi Ilesanmi: The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, speaking on an LBC phone-in program suggested that African Christians will be killed if the Church of England accepts gay marriage. According to the Freethinker, he claimed he had stood by a mass grave in Nigeria of 330 Christians who had been massacred by neighbours who had justified the atrocity by saying: “If we leave a Christian community here we will all be made to become homosexual and so we will kill all the Christians.”
He was also quoted in the Guardian as saying:
I have stood by gravesides in Africa of a group of Christians who had been attacked because of something that had happened in America. We have to listen to that. We have to be aware of the fact. If the Church of England celebrated gay marriages the impact of that on Christians far from here, in South Sudan, Pakistan, Nigeria and other places would be absolutely catastrophic. Everything we say here goes round the world.
The Archbishop of Canterbury’s assertion that Christians in Africa are being massacred because of growing acceptance of gay unions in the West is indeed a load of bullshit and irresponsible lies. The Archbishop seems to be talking from his ass; however that wouldn’t be much of a concern to me but for the fact that as usual, when those religious leaders spew their nonsense in public, it always has a negative impact on those of us that don’t share their delusions.
Echoing the deeply mistaken comments of Communities Secretary Eric Pickles MP earlier this week, the Prime Minister David Cameron has today repeated the assertion that ‘Britain is a Christian country and we shouldn’t be ashamed to say so’ at a reception for Christians at Downing Street. Like Mr Pickles’, the Prime Minister’s remarks misrepresent the true nature of Britain and give further cause for concern that government is seeking to politicise religion and misrepresent the demography of the country for political ends.
Andrew Moffat stepped down after a group of ‘mainly Muslim’ parents complained
A gay assistant head teacher has reportedly resigned after parents complained that they did not want their children to “learn that it’s OK to be gay”.
Andrew Moffat, author of Challenging Homophobia in Primary Schools, was targeted by a group of mainly Muslim parents in the dispute at Chilwell Croft Academy, in Birmingham, The Sunday Times reported.
Mr Moffat, who resigned from his post in December and will leave the primary school this month, said some Christian parents had also complained.
Children are reportedly targeted by Christian anti-balaka gangs set up in wake of attacks by Muslim Seleka rebels
They brought in the bodies one by one, laying them down on a white sheet concealed behind a flimsy black curtain. Among them was a man, probably in his 20s, his head twisted leftward, the skull dented on one side and cracked open on the other. The others also had fatal head injuries that stained the sheet crimson. The first flies began settling on the five corpses.
Archbishop says he has seen mass grave of Christians killed by neighbours who said they feared being ‘made to become gay’
African Christians will be killed if the Church of England accepts gay marriage, the archbishop of Canterbury has suggested. Speaking on an LBC phone in, Justin Welby said he had stood by a mass grave in Nigeria of 330 Christians who had been massacred by neighbours who had justified the atrocity by saying: “If we leave a Christian community here we will all be made to become homosexual and so we will kill all the Christians.”
